OPEN DAY 2016 !

Another very busy afternoon at our venue saw over 20 families come and visit us, and take part in numerous on-court activities - all organised by coach Michael Jefferies. Children of all ages and adults too came to see Wishel for the first time, and take a taster of Tiger Tennis - the family orientated coaching programme.

OUR OPEN DAY

We held a hugely successful day on June 13, where coach Michael introduced his Tiger Tennis coaching programme to our existing juniors and many others - some enjoying their first ever experience on Wishel courts !

WISHEL COURTS RESURFACED !!

Wishel's courts have been completely resurfaced by the specialist contractor 1st Surface in time for the busy spring and summer tennis schedules !

NEW COACH FOR WISHEL - SPRING 2015

Michael Jefferies is to rejoin Wishel after a ten-year gap. Michael has been very busy on the tennis circuit in Surrey and will be bringing his coaching experience back to Wishel - which includes his Tiger Tennis programme for juniors.

Tiger Tennis will be organised as an after-school event on some mid-week days - more details to follow.

WOKING & DISTRICT TENNIS LEAGUE - 60 YEARS !

Woking & District Tennis League celebrated 60 years with a special dinner at the Holiday Inn Woking in September 2013.

Wishel had a special reason for attending this wonderful evening - Wishel were one of the original 8 teams that started the league in February 1953 - and now are the only club from this original 8 clubs that still participate in the league !

Wishel representatives on the evening included Club Captain Molly and Trustee Doreen Williams.

FLOODLIGHTS AT WISHEL !

Following the planning approval in 2008, the Members at Wishel had voted for a funding policy in February to ensure that the proposed floodlights have been erected and operational from Autumn 2010.

The purpose built low-level lights were erected in May 2010 and were first used that August when members enjoyed a unique late afternoon - evening American Tournament !

The floodlights enable all members to enjoy even more court time during the winter evenings and will facilitate midweek club play and additional junior coaching and time on court.

DOREEN'S AN ACE... HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE !

SURREY SPORTS AWARDS 2009 - OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO SPORT

Wishel's Doreen Williams was presented with this fantastic award in recognition for her significant contribution towards tennis in Surrey.

Demonstrating unnerving enthusiasm, Doreen has been an active committee meeting since 1990, and in this time has promoted a number of initiatives at the club, including the Play Tennis National Programme, from which emerged the first Junior section of the club.

With her work too for the Woking and District Tennis League, Doreen's positive, enthusiastic and approachable attitude has encouraged and enabled many players all over the area to enjoy competitive tennis.

THE TROTMAN TROPHY

July of this year, saw Doreen collect Sport Woking Award 2009.

The ultimate accolade – The Trotman Trophy – has been awarded each year since 1971 and was awarded this year to Doreen Williams, partly for her long and dedicated service as player and officer with Wishel Tennis Club, even more so for being the unflagging organiser of the Woking and District Tennis League.

CLUBHOUSE REFURBISHMENT

Work to the Clubhouse is well underway and indeed completion is expected by early December 2009.

The club has received two grants towards the cost of this work.        These are:-

AWARDS FOR ALL, ENGLAND (National Lottery): A grant of £8,000.

SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL: A grant of £4,000.

WISHEL OPEN SESSION FOR THE COMMUNITY

This was held on 12 September and proved to be a great success.      Local schools were provided with leaflets to advise pupils that Wishel was opening their doors for the morning and providing free access to the courts for all children from 6 years and older. The club provided all equipment, free coaching and supervision by CRB cleared Wishel members.

Great fun was had, and plans are in progress to organise another such event in spring 2010.

COURT SURFACE

Three years ago the courts were completely relaid, and this spring the courts have been relined to maintain their excellent condition.

2009-10 WINTER LEAGUE LEAGUE

Wishel have entered a Ladies and Men's team in this winters Woking & District Tennis League.
